The 70th annual meeting of the Indian chemical engineers (Chemcon-2017) was held in Haldia, India from December 26th to 29th, 2017. Professor Chen Xiaodong was invited by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, the host of the conference, to attend the meeting as the only non-Indian representative and make a wonderful report.

The meeting address, Haldia, is one of India's largest oil refining cities. During the four-day meeting, the Indian chemical engineers from all over India and multiple countries around the world get together, communicate about the latest progress in the study of chemical industry, and share chemical research and industry experience with outstanding professors and young scholars.

Professor Chen has a long-term cooperation with India multiple higher education and research institutions, including Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (the best chemical university in India), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and many colleges and universities in India. In his report, Professor Chen discussed the development of chemical research in the past, present and future, and emphasized the progress of bionic chemistry. The content of the report was excellent, outlining the history of chemical research and discussing the future direction, which was well received by the participants. During the meeting, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers awarded Professor Chen the Distinguished Reporter's Medal of the Chemical Week Chemcon Lotus G. P. Kane in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of chemical research. The medal was set up in 2001 to select one winner each year.
